From the beginning of the book, the reader probably expects that Gene Moore's career in baseball will not turn out as he had hoped.
How does the author keep the reader's attention?

Daniel,
Excellent observation about the way the book blends world events and their effects on one person's life

Author Gary Moore blended historical events with personal experiences to keep the story energized. I liked seeing how the bigger world collided with Gene's personal life and wondered if these collisions would throw him off course.
