Why do you think Gene Moore kept it a secret from his children that he had been recruited as a professional baseball player?

Daniel,
Very true -- "social networking" is a very new concept, and the norms have changed a lot over the years.
I agree that it will be fascinating to hear what Gary Moore has to say (in this forum or at the Library during his March 18 presentations) about this question.

What a great question! It seems to me that Gene Moore's generation simply did not talk about their experiences the way we do today. Society expected people to endure what they had to endure without complaint or even discussion.
Today, society has very differnt expectations about sharing personal experiences. Oprah, reality TV, and Facebook have all changed expectations for what's private and what's not.
I hope that Gary Moore comments on this question!
