Dear Sister by Lisa Factora-Borchers
Nonfiction
This book is a collection of letters, essays, and poems, written by survivors of sexual violence, to encourage and support other survivors, both women and men. This was a very hard book to read. I admire the love, strength, and support that these writers give to their sister survivors. It was not a book I could sit down and read cover to cover in one sitting. The subject matter is very heavy and intense. I found this book empowering and wonderfully done. If you know of someone who has survived abuse, this would be a great comfort for them to have. It is vulnerably and beautifully written with love and awareness. There is healing within this book because it speaks to victims in a way that lets them know it wasn’t their fault and that they are understood and validated.
