How Not to Die: Discover the Foods Scientifically Proven to Prevent and Reverse Disease by Michael Greger
Nonfiction
Another title that promotes the benefits of a plant-based diet, this one was written by the doctor who runs the popular nutritionfacts.org website. Various diseases are taken on separately and the author explains previous and current research done on the subject.
What makes this book different is the fact that it is often very funny; his description of the Asian fruit durian, which he first encountered as a medical student, made me laugh out loud. He describes the fruit’s stench as “pig s***, turpentine & onions, garnished with a gym sock.” This is not a cookbook, there are only some recipes in passing, but the author competently and authoritatively gets his point across regarding a plant-based diet. Greatly enjoyed it.
