Rising Strong by Brené Brown
Nonfiction
What it’s about: Brown discusses her work moving beyond shame into resilience and looks at it as a practice of evaluating our personal narratives and rewriting our own “stormy first draft” stories after reflection to help our personal growth. She adds personal anecdotes and answers a reviewer’s questions about how being vulnerable can open us up to a world of possibilities.
Why you should read it: Brené Brown’s work is eye-opening, and her presentation here is funny as well as enlightening. The rewriting she talks about is to help us understand where others are coming from and to answer them in ways that clear our relationship path and avoid misunderstandings.
