David and Goliath: Underdogs, Misfits, and the Art of Battling Giants by Malcolm Gladwell
Nonfiction
In David and Goliath, bestselling author Malcolm Gladwell tackles the subject of why bigger isn't always better. The book is divided into three sections. First, Gladwell discusses why advantages and disadvantages aren't always what they seem - sometimes (as in the case of class sizes) an advantage can actually be a disadvantage and vice versa. Next, he writes about the concept of a "desirable difficulty," or why having some adversity in life can be integral to one's success. Finally, he covers the limits of power, or why having the upper hand doesn't always equate to victory. As always, Gladwell makes connections between academic studies and real life in a way that makes the statistics entertaining. The audiobook is beautifully narrated by the author.
